Two Poems by Matthew Rohrer

Poem for CAConrad

Have you ever heard the song
of the Elf Owl?
I can’t read these ancient
poems anymore they’re too sad.
And I will come out to meet you
as far as Ft Hamilton Parkway.
We can download an Elf Owl chortle,
and drink some wine.
While the candidates contend
w/each other on television
different winds flow
like rivers through the sky.
Sometimes I just want to
stay inside my body.
     Sometimes when the sun sets
   it cracks its yolk.
From deep in the pages
of an ancient book
a hurricane emerges.
My phone lights up
hello? The storm has come.
The breeze breaks through
the sorghum fields.
The candidates check
their phones to see who won.
